Marjorie Sparks Voice Studio :: Women's Ensemble ClassesWomen's Ensemble Classes
The Women's Ensemble Class

The eight week Women's Ensemble Class presented by The Marjorie Sparks Voice Studio has just ended. It was a great success. Three main areas of study and music making were in play throughout the course:

  • Vocal Techniques
  • Sight reading techniques using Movable Doh
  • Choral Techniques with SSAA choral singing
Marjorie Sparks provided a wonderful venue at her studio at Bayview and Eglinton.

Conductor Lorelyn Morgan, Accompanist Danguole Radtke, and Voice Teacher Marjorie Sparks team taught the class. Marjorie focussed on a great variety of practical vocal information, Lorelyn conducted the sight-reading and choral segments and Danguole accompanied and helped with learning parts. Several selections were sung, including, Spirituals, Canadian Folksongs, Popular standards and traditional Christmas Carols for the holiday season. The class finished with an informal performance and a terrific fireside supper party complete with carol singing.

The class is scheduled to continue in the New Year!

Here are the details for the upcoming classes. MOST IMPORTANT! The class is for ALL levels. Beginner singers are welcome.

Program

  1. Vocal Techniques ranging in levels and styles. This information is very useful for all singers and compatible with techniques offered in your private voice studios. Interesting warm ups, guided imagery for more expressive singing, and useful charts for singing clear vowels and consonants are among many vocal topics practised.
  2. Sight Singing with Movable Doh. Exercises in singing as a group with simple Sol Fa patterns, and then sight singing a choral piece with Sol Fa are taught. Careful repetition is used to allow this wonderful Sol Fa system to become a great sight reading tool for Beginners especially..
  3. Choral Singing. A varied repertoire of SA, SSA and SSAA selections will be provided at the first class. Each week the joy of singing in parts is developed. The repertoire will be of varying degrees of difficulty and styles. There is a very good learning curve from careful part learning to presenting well prepared pieces.
